Canadian Schools

 

All of the following criteria apply:

  1. Applicants must be in their penultimate or final year of medical school at the time of the requested Elective.
  2. By the time of the Elective, an applicant must have successfully completed a core rotation in the specialty/discipline(s) for which he/she is applying or is confirmed into, with the exception of the following Departments:
  • Public Health (completion of FP is preferred)
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Orthopedics
  • Pathology
  • Medical Genetics
  • Radiology
  • Urology (a General Surgery core rotation is sufficient)\

NOTE: Pediatric electives in the Vancouver area require all visiting students have their core  rotation completed in general pediatrics.

University of Calgary Students
  1. In consideration of the University of Calgary’s clerkship schedule, U of C students must in their final year of medical school at the time of the requested Elective.
  2. By the time of the Elective, an applicant must have successfully completed a clinical clerkship elective OR a core rotation in the specialty/discipline(s) for which he/she is applying or is confirmed into. Pre-clerkship courses will not meet this requirement.  (See above for Departments that do not require completion of a core rotation / clinical clerkship elective).
