Message From the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser

I hope you are as excited as I am to read the inaugural newsletter for the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP).  Our hope is that this publication will serve as a means to keep students, faculty, staff and stakeholders informed and updated about our program and the impact it is having on the region.  Last year, hundreds of learners from the UBC Faculty of Medicine spent a part of their training in the Vancouver Fraser health regions.  Most of these were medical students and resident physicians, but there were also other FOM learners such as midwives, audiologist and physical therapists.

We continue to build on our strong foundation in Vancouver Fraser and know our medical education programs in the region are having a positive impact.  Our students are contributing to the delivery of local health care.  Hospitals are acquiring new teaching spaces and instructional technologies.  Health care professionals are broadening their experience through teaching and research.

In my new role as Regional Associate Dean, I look forward to engaging with the broader community in Vancouver Fraser.   I hope to develop lasting, productive relationships with the goal of ensuring continued excellence in medical education in the communities we serve.  Ideally, this newsletter will continue to be a place where our successes, innovations and collaborations will be shared and celebrated.

Warm regards,

Dawn E. DeWitt, BA, MSc, MD, FACP, FRACP

Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser
