Transcript Statuses: Transcripts from last year, UBC transcripts, and transcripts for proof of BC residency

By Admissions on Jun 28, 2012 We have started to get a few questions about transcript statuses and when they will be updated.  Hope this will help to clear things up! Transcripts that come in the mail: These are our top priority and we are normally able to update the status within 24 hours. Keep in mind that there is a one-day lag between when transcripts arrive at our mailing address and when they make it to our physical location. Transcripts have to be at our mailing address (not our physical location) by the application deadline. Transcripts carried forward from last year: Since we already have all of last year’s transcripts in our office, we are not prioritizing these transcripts, so it might take a while for them to be marked as received. We will work on them throughout the summer but we might not have them all updated until after the application deadline. As long as you have checked the appropriate box on the application and do not need to submit a new transcript, don’t worry that the transcript status still says “Not Received.” As a reminder, it is your responsibility to submit new transcripts if necessary (if you have started or completed any coursework since the last time you submitted the transcript). When we are transferring transcripts forward we will be marking them as “received” but we are not going to check them for courses in progress or other indications that a new transcript is needed until we start evaluating files.  This means that your transcript may be marked as received, but if we discover that you should have submitted an updated transcript, we will change it back to “not received.”  If this happens after the application deadline your file will become ineligible.  If you’re not sure whether or not we have the most updated transcript, send in another copy just to be safe. UBC transcripts: we will update these regularly but it will still take a bit longer than our normal turnaround time. Again, as long as you checked the appropriate box on the application, don’t worry about your UBC transcript being received. University transcripts as proof of BC residency: If you use a university transcript to prove BC residency, we will mark the transcript received and proof of residency received at the same time. We are not verifying BC residence until the file evaluation period, however, so even though your proof of BC residency says received we may still contact you later on if we need you to provide additional proof of residency. Fourth Round of Offers Sent

By Admissions on Jun 08, 2012

The fourth round of offers were sent yesterday, with a deadline of Monday at noon. As always, congratulations to the newest members of MED 2016! While the waitlist is still moving, fewer and fewer spaces are available so we anticipate future rounds will be smaller and faster (meaning shorter deadlines). Because of this we are going to stop updating the blog after each round. Unfortunately, although we are getting there, we still aren’t at a place where we can shorten the waitlist quite yet. Not sure when this is going to be possible but we will definitely update the blog when it happens. We’re hoping that it will be by the end of the month.

Second Round of Offers Sent

By Admissions on May 25, 2012

The second round of offers has been sent!  Congratulations to everyone receiving an offer.  The deadline for this round is Wednesday, May 30, at 12:00 p.m., so the next round will be sent sometime after this date (the exact date and time is not yet determined).  We will update the blog after the next round.

Applicants who accepted an offer to a less-preferred site and wish to stay there instead of accepting an offer to a more-preferred site, please email us through the online application system.  This is allowed – we just need to give you some special instructions.

Receiving Regrets

By Admissions on May 08, 2012

Unfortunately, regrets happen.  Our program is hard to get into and there really just aren’t enough spots for everyone.  You can be smart, you can be nice, you can be caring and involved and good at the MCAT – you can be everything we seem to be looking for and still not get in. Please don’t take it as personal rejection if you receive regrets.  Our decision isn’t meant to be a comment on your potential or suitability for medicine; instead, it’s a reflection of how well your application matched up with our unique selection criteria and process.  We believe we select good applicants and we stand behind our process.  However, we fully recognize that we reject good applicants, too.  Thank you for considering UBC, and thank you for all of your work and participation in this year’s cycle.

For applicants given regrets, after you receive the notification email you will be able to check your scores on the Application Status page.  We get a lot of questions about the AQ Score, but as long as your OGPA (or AGPA if applicable) is correct, your AQ Score is correct.

We welcome you to apply again next year if you are still interested in pursuing medicine at UBC.  The application will open on June 1.
