Research

UBC MD/PhD students are required to fulfill the PhD portion of the degree in a department which is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and listed in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at UBC.  The research supervisor must be a full member of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral  Studies, and is usually from a Department, Interdisciplinary Program or Institute within the Faculty of Medicine. The research supervisor must hold a current CIHR research operating grant or from an equivalent peer-reviewed, federal or provincial granting agency. Students who have chosen a research supervisor outside the Faculty of Medicine are required to have a co-supervisor within the Faculty.

Information on “tips for finding a research supervisor in the Faculty of Medicine” is available on the Faculty of Medicine webpage. Students can also visit the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies webpage for information on “finding a supervisor“, “who can be a supervisor” and “identify research experts“. Students interested in doing research at the distributed sites are welcome to visit the site webpages for information (UBCO, UVic, UNBC) .
