A message from Dr. Amil Shah, Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser

We were fortunate to have a luxuriously long summer this year, but we are now in the full throws of fall.

The leaves have almost all fallen and there’s a crisp chill in the air. We are back to school and back to routine, and there is something comforting about that.

As many of you are aware, 2014 marks the ten year anniversary of our distributed MD program. The fact that the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program has historically been the hub of medical education in British Columbia does not mean our region was not affected by or involved in the evolution of our province-wide program. In fact, many adjustments and innovations had to take place in order to ensure the program’s success. This year, we are celebrating the contributions of all regions and partners in the creation of North America’s first fully distributed MD program.

On the Curriculum Renewal front, a significant milestone has been reached. Earlier this month, the renewed curriculum obtained UBC Senate approval. You will find a more detailed update on this in this newsletter.

As always, I hope you enjoy reading and learning about the activities, events and individuals in the VFMP. As we settle into the winter months, I wish you all the very best in your work and studies – as well as a safe and happy holiday season with your friends and family.

Sincerely,

Amil Shah, MDCM, FRCPC, FACP
Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser
Clinical Professor, Medicine
