A group of UBC medical students will be showcasing their theatrical talents this week for MedPlay, an annual production performed and produced by learners in collaboration with a professional director from the community.
Each year, students volunteer as cast members, crew and producers to create unique productions of noteworthy plays.
This year’s production will be a movie rendition of Without Rule of Law, by Canadian playwright Michaela Jeffery.
“Audiences can expect a fun coming-of-age movie about teenage girls who take their futures into their own hands,” said Shadan Ashrafi, a fourth-year medical student at UBC and one of the producers for MedPlay.
All proceeds from this year’s play will be donated to Justice for Girls, a Canadian non-profit organization that provides support and resources to young women in poverty in an effort to end violence.
