Offers 2017 – Round 2 Sent

The second round of offers were sent late yesterday afternoon. Congratulations to everyone who received one! The deadline for this round is Friday, June 9 at noon Pacific Time; the next round of offers will go out after this deadline.

It is hard to be on the waitlist and we know waitlisted applicants are eager for any information we can provide, but unfortunately we cannot say how many people declined, how many offers were sent out, how quickly the waitlist is moving, etc.

Is there a reason the deadline to accept is longer this year?

Normally, waitlisted applicants are usually only given 1 week to decide. It’s almost 2 weeks this time, why is it different?

The wait is very difficult for people on the waitlist, and doubling the wait time makes it worse.

Is there any reason why this round of offers this year is given 2 weeks to respond while historically it was only given 1 week?

Is there any reason why this round of offers is given 2 weeks to reply while historically it’s been given just 1 week?

In previous years it was 1 week for Round 2 to respond to offers. Is it possible to find out the reason behind more time being given for this years offers? Thank you

Is there a reason why the wait is 2 weeks? Historically it has always been 1 week.

Very observant commenters! The deadline is simply a bit longer this year than it would have been in the past (four days longer, to be exact). Thank you for your patience; we do sympathize with the difficult wait applicants on the waitlist face.

Just to be clear, will the next round of offers be on the same day as the deadline (June 9th), or will we have to wait till after the weekend (June 12th)? Thanks!

    1. Admissions

It will most likely be June 12.

I understand that there must have been some new offers yesterday. But just curious if it’s possible to know whether a good portion of yesterday’s offers were to sites of preference for recently accepted students?

    Thanks!

Sorry, we are not sharing that information.

The wait is very difficult for those on the wait-list indeed. However, some universities don’t even share when their offers are sent out or when the deadline to those offers is. Being wait-listed at those universities is way worse (trust me, I’ve been there). I’m glad that we get to know the abovementioned two things from UBC (although the wait is very difficult for me too).

Would admissions happen to know yet whether there will be 5-6 rounds of offers as per previous years?

    1. Admissions

We don’t know how many rounds there will be – it really depends on how many people decline their offers of admission.

    Hello,

I understand that you cannot reveal the length or anyone’s position on the wait list. However, I was wondering if we could at least get some light on what percent of wait listers are typically offered a spot each year. Do the majority of wait listed people get a chance to accept? Or at least, is there a good shot or should I give up all hope?

    Sincerely,

    A hopeful yet defeated premed

Don’t give up hope yet! Without sounding too obvious, some people receive offers when they are on the waitlist and some don’t. We cannot say how many people or what percentage of people are likely to receive an offer. We normally shorten the waitlist at some point – that would be more the time to consider that the chances of getting an offer are slim (or none, if you are removed from the waitlist). But for now we are only in Round 2.

One caveat, though: if you have not taken the new version of the MCAT or have something else that you really must do if you were to apply for the upcoming cycle, it’s probably best to be safe and make the arrangements to take care of it so you do not jeopardize your application.

    Hello,

I’m wondering if we would be expecting more rounds offers? Since the application system for 2017/2018 is open today, I’m wondering if I should start a new application for 2017/18 or keep waiting..

    Thank you!

Please stay tuned! We will let you know if there will be more offers when we update the blog after tomorrow’s deadline.
