Meet Our Students

Meet some of our MD Undergraduate Program students.

Alisha Tapar
I was inspired to pursue medicine because of my curiosity about the human body and desire to form connections with patients, while supporting them through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. This inspiration continues to drive and empower me throughout my medical journey. One piece of advice I would give to future medical students is to stay curious, while embracing learning, growth, and challenges throughout the process. Alisha Thapar, Northern Medical Program, Class of 2027

Carolie Maka
With a background in biomedical engineering, I have always seen medicine as a landscape ripe for innovation and meaningful problem-solving. Medicine combines my goal of providing high-quality, longitudinal care to patients with my innate drive for geeking out over technology and building solutions that can have exponential impacts on patients’ lives. Coralie Maka, Vancouver Fraser Medical Program, Class of 2028

Tyler Woloshyn
One of my most memorable experiences in medical school was my psychiatry rotation in clerkship. To connect with patients and listen to their experiences by meeting them where they are through patient-centred care and having been trusted with the independence to do so, was a formative and memorable experience. It has further motivated me to continue to provide this type of care in my career. Other memorable experiences come from spending time with my classmates, many of whom have become some of my best friends! Navigating challenges and celebrating successes together has given us the foundation for lifelong friendships. Tyler Woloshyn, Southern Medical Program, Class of 2026

Arden Grew
Originally, I was looking to pursue a career in research but through volunteering at a long-term care home I came to cherish my interactions with the patients there, giving me insight into a career that I know will be much more fulfilling to me personally. These reasons for pursuing medicine have been central to my resilience. Medical school is fast paced and can be overwhelming at times, so reflecting on the joy and fulfillment I experience connecting with patients is so important. The road to medical school was challenging for me as it likely is for most people. My advice to anyone looking to take part in that journey is to find ways of combining the things they love doing with helping people. This is a great way to sharpen one’s empathy while engaging one’s interests. Best of luck! Arden Grew, Island Medical Program, Class of 2029
